Switch-banner3On Thursday November 12th at 6.30pm iCRAG will be screening the movie Switch in the Irish Film Institute in Dublin as part of Science Week. The event will be used to launch the Science Expressions Film Festival. Our Director Prof. John Walsh will be joined by Prof. Iain Stewart – University of Plymouth and presenter of numerous BBC geoscience programmes – for a panel discussion on future energy after the screening with Dr Claire O’Connell of the Irish Times.

What does the future of energy really hold? Join energy visionary Dr. Scott Tinker on a spectacular global adventure to find out. Dr. Tinker explores the world’s leading energy sites, from coal to solar, oil to biofuels, many highly restricted and never before seen on film. He gets straight answers from the people driving energy today, international leaders of government, industry and academia. In the end, he cuts through the confusion to discover a path to our future that is surprising and remarkably pragmatic. Switch is the first truly balanced energy film, embraced and supported by people all along the energy spectrum – fossil and renewable, academic and environmental.

Every energy resource – fossil, nuclear and renewable – is undergoing profound changes. And overall, we’re gradually shifting from coal and oil to the energies of tomorrow. This sweeping transition is the subject of Switch. But rather than advocate for how it should happen, Switch travels the world to discover how it most likely will happen. Switch is also about a changing energy conversation. Today, it’s polarized and unproductive. Switch focuses on practical realities and encourages a balanced understanding. Finally, Switch is about changing the way we use energy, to realize the many economic and environmental benefits of efficiency.
